I've always hated being put in a box, and the emu is a bird that simply refuses to fit into one. They are magnificent, prehistoric, and entirely their own creature. This piece " Follow Your Own Path," draws on my childhood memories of watching these birds in country Victoria and feeling a deep connection to their strange, rhythmic energy. In this piece, I've bought the emu out of the enclosure and into an unexpected space alongside a monstera. I wanted to honour the beauty of the uncommon - the things that don't quiet fit the standard mold. Its a visual celebration of standing your ground and owning your journey, no matter how uncommon it may seem to the rest of the world.
The themes that inspire me whilst creating these art pieces is always the same freedom, self expression and play are at the forefront of my mind whilst creating my artwork.
